Nightmare for Egyptian women !

Egyptian women have been living in a nightmare since Arab Spring, their conditions are getting worst and the new constitution does not talk about women’s rights and gender equality. They have lost the very few rights they had during Hosni Mubārak government.

Protest Tahrir, Egypt

For a week, Egypt is waking up against Egypt’s Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, ! And women have been part of this protest but they paid a high price ! Around 100 women were sexually attacked in Tahrir Place in Cairo during 4 days ! A hotline for victimes of sexual assault had been running and reveals that there were 46 attacks on Sunday, 17 on Monday and 23 on Tuesday! Seriously! What’s wrong? Is that a way to frighten them off from joining protests,  in order to tell to go away and make them stay at home ? Women should be able to be heard in any public space at the same level of men, shut them up is not helping Egyptian society at all !

« Mobs sexually assaulted and in some cases raped at least 91 women in Tahrir Square… amid a climate of impunity, » underlines HRW.

« The rampant sexual attacks during the Tahrir Square protests highlight the failure of the government and all political parties to face up to the violence that women in Egypt experience on a daily basis in public spaces, » said Joe Stork, HRW’s deputy Middle East director.
